As Hurricane Ernesto was bearing down towards the island of Bermuda on Friday, Environment and Climate Change meteorologist Rob Robichaud said its path towards Canada’s Atlantic provinces may get a reprieve. “It looks like the core of the strongest winds should remain offshore given the track that we're expecting now,” Robichaud said. Hurricane Ernesto is “having some struggles in intensifying over the last couple of days — it has intensified a little bit but due to some dryer air and some wind shear but it hasn’t yet lived up to what we thought it would so far but there is still some opportunity for strengthening in the next few days,” Robichaud added. Ernesto churned towards Bermuda on Friday as a powerful Category 2 storm likely to produce 30 cm of rainfall over the weekend and trigger life-threatening flooding and storm surges in the British island territory.
