Addressing the nation in wake of the aftermath of Hurricane Milton on Thursday afternoon, U.S. President Joe Biden advised Floridians to wait for an “all clear” before returning to their homes following mandatory evacuations across 51 counties. “There's still very dangerous conditions in the state and people should wait to be given the all clear by [local] leaders before they go out,” Biden said. “We know from previous hurricanes that it's often the case that more lives are lost days following the storm than actually during the storm itself,” the Democratic leader added. According to Biden, more than 80,000 people followed emergency guidelines and sought safety in local shelters as the Category 3 storm pummelled a large portion of the Sunshine State. Though the impact was much less intense than Floridians expected, it pounded dozens of cities with ferocious winds and rain, whipping up a barrage of tornadoes and causing at least 10 deaths. Hurricane Milton swept through to the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday morning, after wreaking havoc overnight.
