In Historic Speech, Biden Touts Record and Skirts Reason for Dropping Reelection Bid

President Joe Biden returned to the White House Wednesday night to explain why he dropped out of the 2024 campaign. In a historic Oval Office address, Biden said he dropped his reelection bid because there is "a time and a place for new voices." "So I've decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. It's the best way to unite our nation," Biden said. "It has been the honor of my life to serve as your president. But in the defense of democracy, which is at stake, I think is more important than any title." Some critics say he didn't give a full explanation of his reason for leaving the race, avoiding the hard truths about his health.
