Include youth in education reform conversation

Even as Barbados and other regional territories are being lauded for their ongoing efforts to reform their education systems, authorities have been urged to include the youth in the process. The call and suggestion have come from Director of the School of Education at the UWI Cavehill Campus Professor Joel Warrican. He made that call this morning during the Meeting of the Eastern Caribbean Joint Board of Teacher Education. Professor Warrican also contends the social ills present in Barbados and the region are manifestations of the failures of the education systems that are still based on the colonial era.
