In the midst of India's general election, halfway through the voting process, tens of millions have cast their ballots. Candidates are fiercely vying for every vote, with turnout deemed critical by political analysts. As turnout dips compared to previous elections, concerns loom for BJP's prospects, as noted by political scientist Sumantra Bose. Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks a third term amid accusations of hate speech, particularly targeting Muslims, though he denies these claims. Analysts speculate Modi's approach is aimed at dividing the electorate to secure victory. Despite criticism, Modi continues to draw substantial crowds and remains the frontrunner, according to Professor Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury. The fourth voting phase, electing 96 members of parliament, begins Monday, with results anticipated on June 4th. The Indian government has failed to give visas to Al Jazeera’s correspondents to cover this story - therefore we are reporting on this election from outside the country.
