Indian restaurants better able to meet festive demand after hiring foreign cooks on work permits

Indian restaurants in Singapore have been better able to meet festive demand this year, following support to hire more specialised cooks. It has been a year since such restaurants were allowed to hire cooks from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on work permits. Still, in the long run, they are hoping that rules can be relaxed further to bring in more foreign manpower. The Manpower Ministry added Indian cooks to the non-traditional sources occupation list in March last year. 400 Indian cuisine restaurants tapped the work permit in the first three months it was rolled out.
