Indonesia commemorates 20 years of the Indian Ocean tsunami
It's been 20 years since a tsunami devastated coastlines and killed an estimated 228,000 people in Indonesia, Thailand and other Indian Ocean nations. It was triggered by a powerful undersea earthquake. In the city of Banda Aceh, a siren marked the exact time the undersea earthquake was felt in the province. People attended an official memorial in the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque. The ceremony is the first in a series planned across Asia. Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reports from Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
