Barbados' top male surfer Josh Burke just fell short of making the final of the BTMI Barbados Surf Pro at the Soup Bowl in Bathsheba on Sunday, when he lost to eventual men's winner Lucca Mesinas at the semi-final stage. Burke, who had a best wave total of 7.33 And rode eight waves to Mesinas' five, was unable to beat out the Peruvian, whose overall total was 16.10 to Burke's 13.83. Mesinas then went on to claim the championships by beating out American Michael Dunphy with a wave total of 17.50 To 11.40 Points. Meanwhile, Zoe Benedetto of the United States is the women's champion, as she won her final against fellow American Talia Swindal with a heat total of 14.43 To 13.10 Speaking at the closing ceremony Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill was especially pleased with the international reach attained by hosting the event.
