Israel-Hamas: 3 Israelis dead after shooting at West Bank-Jordan border

At least three Israeli civilians were killed at the West Bank-Jordan border on Sunday after a shooting by Jordanian gunman. Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) say the assailant arrived from the Jordan side and opened fire. He was shot dead by Israeli security forces shortly after. The Allenby Bridge border crossing remains closed. Reacting to the killings, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “We are surrounded by a murderous ideology led by Iran's axis of evil… The killers do not distinguish between us, they want to murder us all, until the last one. Right and left, secular and religious, Jews and non-Jews.” The West Bank has seen a surge of violence since Iran-backed militants, Hamas, killed roughly 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped 250 more on Oct. 7, 2023. Jordanians, however, feel differently about Sunday’s incident, praising the suspect for what they consider avenging the death of thousands of Palestinians.
