Former Australian ambassador to Lebanon Ian Parmeter says tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have risen to a level not seen since 2006. Hezbollah has launched rockets from Lebanon deeper into Israel, causing thousands of people to seek safety and shelter. Fighting across the border has intensified as both sides carry out strikes. “The last time tensions between Israel and Hezbollah reached this level was in 2006 when Israel did actually launch a ground invasion of southern Lebanon,” Mr Parmeter told Sky News Australia. “But more than that, it used its aircraft to destroy a great deal of Lebanese infrastructure – it hit the airport, hit bridges, hit power stations – it was a very major attack.”
