Israel kills Lebanon’s Nabatieh mayor in air attack on southern municipal offices

The Lebanese Health Ministry said an Israeli air attack hit the municipality building, killing six people, including the town’s mayor, Ahmad Kahi. Another 43 people were injured. According to local officials, Israeli warplanes launched more than eight air strikes also on several surrounding towns, killing dozens and destroying property. Rescue teams are still working to remove the rubble from the targeted area. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said Israel deliberately targeted a meeting of the municipal council that was discussing the city’s services and relief situation. Following the deadly attack, the Israeli army released a statement saying it targeted a number of Hezbollah targets in the Nabatieh area. Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr reports from the capital Beirut.
