Israel-Lebanon cross border tension: UN peacekeepers hope to restore calm
On patrol along an active front line, UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon monitor clashes sparked by Israel’s Gaza offensive. Israeli military positions dominate the landscape near the Blue Line, a volatile zone not recognised as a border. Much of the area is devoid of residents, with destroyed homes in Hezbollah’s stronghold. The UN aims for a diplomatic ceasefire, while Israel seeks a Hezbollah-free buffer zone per UN Resolution 1701. Lebanese forces, supported by the UN, aim to extend state control despite ongoing tensions and disputed points along the border. Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr reports from along the Blue Line in southern Lebanon.
