Israel needs “clear and concrete” plan for Gaza after war, Blinken says
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned Israel Wednesday that it needs a “clear and concrete” plan for the day after the conflict in Gaza. Blinken made the comments during a visit to Kyiv, Ukraine on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Israeli tanks pushed deeper into Rafah, reaching some residential areas in the southern Gazan border city, where more than a million people had sought shelter. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the elimination of Hamas is necessary in the Gaza Strip for any alternative Palestinian governance. He said in a video statement that Western criticism of Israel’s military operation in Rafah “has not been realized, nor will it.” Israel’s international allies and aid groups have repeatedly warned against a ground incursion into Rafah, where many Palestinians have fled and Israel says four Hamas battalions are holed up.
