Israeli soccer fans attacked by "anti-semitic" rioters
Amsterdam's mayor Femke Halsema described those arrested after Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer fans were attacked as "anti-semitic hit-and-run squads" on Friday. At a news conference, Halsema condemned the overnight violence in the Dutch city against the football supporters, although there was evidence of provocative chanting from Israeli fans. Videos on social media showed riot police intervening in clashes, with some attackers shouting anti-Israeli slurs. But some footage also showed Israeli supporters chanting anti-Arab slogans before Thursday evening's match. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that "Tomorrow, 86 years ago, was Kristallnacht, when Jews on European soil were attacked for being Jews. This has now recurred." "We need to deal with it," he added.
