Israelis protest against government, for hostages release, 9 months after Oct. 7 attack

Hundreds of Israelis blocked a main Tel Aviv junction on Sunday (July 7) to call for the immediate release of hostages held by Hamas and against the government who they hold responsible for the ongoing war, on the day that marks 9 months since Hamas attack. Hamas led an unprecedented attack into Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 and kidnapping over 250 people, mostly civilians. Israel then launched a war against the Islamist group that rules the Gaza Strip, killing over 38,000, according to the territory's health officials. Protests aimed at pressuring the Israeli government to reach a hostage deal with Hamas began across the country on Sunday, with demonstrators blocking roads and picketing at the homes of government ministers. Protests began at 6:29 am (0329 GMT), corresponding to the time of Hamas' Oct. 7 assault on Israel, according to Israeli media.
