Italian economist Geraci on China's economy
For more: https://www.cgtn.com/video With China's "Two Sessions" around the corner, markets are avidly awaiting Premier Li Qiang' s Government Work Report to discover China's overall direction for economic, social, and foreign policies for 2024. What will be some of this year's main growth drivers? And what does it say about China's path to modernization? In this edition of The Hub, Wang Guan talks to Michele Geraci, former undersecretary of State at the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, where he was responsible for International Trade and Investment. He also spent ten years in China where he worked as macro-economist and professor of finance in various universities. Professor Geraci dismisses the "Peak China" theory, noting that China has proved to be adaptive over the past decades. He believes that sectors such as education, technology and energy should be more open to foreign businesses. He also tells Wang Guan that people should take the long view of China's economy as the country becomes an innovation powerhouse. Looking at China's path to modernization, Geraci elaborates on the "hardware and the software" of the Chinese model. "China delivers," he says, proof that China's "ex-post democracy" - a concept Geraci coined - works wonders.
