Italy floods: Drone video captures devastating aftermath, helicopter rooftop rescues

On Friday, Italian police released aerial and drone footage showcasing the aftermath of devastating floods that hit the country’s Emilia-Romagna region for the second year in a row. Around 1,000 people were evacuated, with helicopters rescuing some residents who were forced onto their rooftops for safety. People hosted in the temporary shelter set up inside of a middle school expressed hope of being able to return to their homes soon, after the flooding of the Lamone river in the province of Ravenna submerged houses in Traversara di Bagnacavallo and Lugo. ''I lived during the war, but I have never seen so much water. But what do we do now? Now we stay here for a while and then hope they send us home tomorrow,'' said 83-year-old evacuee Elena Valenti. Meanwhile, former commander of local police Roberto Faccani said that people were “traumatized and very demotivated” and that there is a “growing anger" towards authorities responsible for handling the situation.
