Japan and Philippines sign landmark defence pact amid tensions in South China Sea

Japan and the Philippines have signed a landmark security pact, which will allow for the deployment of troops on each other's soil for both training purposes and other operations. The Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) is the first of its kind to be signed by Japan in Asia, and comes amid heightened tensions in the Indo-Pacific. Japan has a similar pact with the UK and Australia, while the Philippines has a visiting forces agreement with Australia and the US. Cherrie Regalado reports from Manila.
