Jasper wildfire evacuee returns to find neighbourhood destroyed, but his home intact

Jasper resident and evacuee Sviatoslav Rud documented his return home on Friday after wildfires ravaged the town in July. In the video, Rud shows that multiple buildings in his neighbourhood are destroyed, while his house remains standing. “Our house survived. We got some ashes inside,” Rud says to the camera. He goes on to show the shell of a burned-out building he says used to be a Petro-Canada. Rud then shows his backyard, showing multiple buildings. “Everything behind us completely burned, our other neighbours, thank God survived.” Jasper National Park was evacuated on July 22, two days before the wildfire entered the townsite.
