U.S. President Joe Biden spoke Sunday evening after news broke earlier that former president Jimmy Carter had passed away at the age of 100. "Today, America and the world, in my view, lost a remarkable leader," Biden said adding it's a "sad day." "I've been hanging out with Jimmy Carter for over 50 years it dawned on me," Biden added. Jimmy Carter — the 39th president of the United States — has died at the age of 100. A statement from the Carter Center says he died peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia surrounded by family. The former president is being celebrated as a champion of democracy, public health and human rights.
