JUDGE ALONE TRIALS; THE NEXT MOVE FOR ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA

Cabinet is to move toward making Judge-Only trials a permanent feature of the country's justice system. It follows a recommendation from Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, Dame Janice Pereira, who suggests removing the sunset clause which made the law temporary. The Chief Justice's views were contained in a letter to the government and which was read aloud in cabinet at the last meeting. Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister's Office, Ambassador Lionel Hurst said that Judge-Alone trials bring more efficiency to the court.
