King Charles in Australia: Royal tour spotlights growing movement to cut ties with monarchy

King Charles and Queen Camilla touched down in Sydney on Friday, kicking off a six-day tour of Australia. It is Charles’ first trip to a Commonwealth country since he became king two years ago, and his first major overseas trip after he was diagnosed with cancer early this year. The royals were greeted by a stunning light show projected onto the famed Sydney Opera House as they touched down in the country. But while the prime minister was on hand to welcome the royal couple, none of Australia’s six state premiers are expected to attend Monday’s official reception for the king.
