"She has probably died by suicide, please hurry," the parents of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata were told by a top official at Kolkata's RG Kar hospital, hours after she was brutally raped and murdered inside the hospital. The information was conveyed to the parents in three frantic calls, accessed by India Today TV, which were made by the Assistant Superintendent of the hospital on August 9. According to sources, the Assistant Superintendent was the first to speak to the victim's family.
