Kumbh Mela: Millions of Hindus prepare for major pilgrimage in India

The Indian city of Prayagraj prepared for millions of Hindu pilgrims on Thursday to attend the Kumbh Mela. The six-week-long massive festival is anticipated to draw pilgrims from around the globe, with authorities estimating up to 450 million people will bathe at the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. “A visit to the Kumbh Mela helps cleanse sins of several lives. It was by God's grace that we could come here,” a pilgrim Kali Begum said. “It feels great.” The Maha Kumbh or the Great Pitcher Festival will start on Monday, Jan. 13, and continue until Feb. 26, 2025.
