LA wildfires: California fires will cost “billions,” FEMA administrator says
FEMA administrator Deanne Criswell said Friday that while it is still too early to determine the extent of the damage from the major wildfires that have devastated neighbourhoods in and around Los Angeles, the cost is likely to be in the “billions.” “We haven’t been able to access how much of the infrastructure has been damaged. We know the thousands of homes that have been impacted, but the real cost of these disasters comes from how much of the actual infrastructure has been damaged – the roads, the water system, the power,” she said. The White House said during a briefing that the Biden administration had immediately approved fire management assistance grants to reimburse California for firefighting costs and had approved the state’s request for a emergency disaster declaration. The Biden administration has committed to 180 days of recovery funding, and, asked about concerns the incoming Trump administration could reverse that commitment, Criswell said the decision was made according to law and “shouldn’t be rolled back.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/10952276/los-angeles-wildfires-deaths-damage/ Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on X HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #GlobalNews #lawildfires #lafires #californiawildfires
