LA wildfires: Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal and other celebs lose homes in the Hollywood Hills
The already out-of-control wildfires ravaging parts of Los Angeles this week are spreading even further. As of Thursday, fires in six separate districts are being fought by under-resourced firefighters. Addressing the “true tragedy” on Wednesday, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump went on to blame California Governor Gavin Newsom for the rapid spread, claiming certain policies led to a lack of water in the state to fight fires. Newsom fired back, saying Trump was trying to “play politics.” Alongside President Joe Biden, Newsom has assured Los Angeles “full federal and state support,” according to city mayor Karen Bass. Hundreds of high-value properties and mansions have burned down already in the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood, and as of Wednesday evening the homes of celebrities in the prestigious Hollywood Hills are being hit by what has been dubbed the “sunset fire.” Among the impacted are Canadian icon Eugene Levy, Billy Crystal, Mandy Moore, Anna Faris and Paris Hilton. Ferocious winds that drove the flames and led to chaotic evacuations have calmed somewhat and were not expected to be as powerful during the day, though several reports suggest the fires are inching closer to the iconic Hollywood sign.
