Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie has criticised the Albanese government for its spending which has “made the economy halt” and means inflation is going to “stay higher” for longer. Treasurer Jim Chalmers has maintained Labor’s $300 energy bill subsidies are not inflationary despite the Reserve Bank claiming otherwise. “What I think we’re seeing is the RBA versus the Treasury versus Jim Chalmers and, the RBA, I don’t believe, won’t be influenced by the Labor Party or the Treasurer’s pleading or begging or false economics,” Ms McKenzie told Sky News Australia. “The reality is – Michele Bullock couldn’t have been clearer – state and federal Labor governments’ spending has made the economy halt. “That means inflation is going stay higher than it needs to be for longer.”
