Lawyers say Syrian-born T&T boy is a citizen

Lawyers representing a Syrian-born Trinidad and Tobago National are denying statements made by Education Minister, Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly. In the Senate this week, the minister defended schools’ rejection of a Syrian-born T&T boy, saying the onus was on his parents to regularise his immigration status. The boy was one year old when he came to Trinidad with his parents, who had gone to join ISIS. Quantum Legal, who is representing the family, tells Otto Carrington the boy—who is now nine years old—has been granted citizenship in Trinidad and Tobago and is currently attending a government school in T&T.
