Switzerland was the first country in continental Europe to sign a free trade agreement with China and is a founding member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. In 2016, China and Switzerland announced the establishment of the Sino-Swiss innovative strategic partnership. This is China's first innovation-focused strategic partnership with a foreign country.
