Hezbollah held funerals in Beirut on Wednesday for people killed by exploding pagers. The death toll rose to 12 including two children, Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad said. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that pager blasts targeting militant group Hezbollah indicate "a serious risk of a dramatic escalation in Lebanon and everything must be done to avoid that escalation." U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed that the U.S. had no prior knowledge of an attack targeting pagers used by Lebanon's Hezbollah. Jordan's foreign minister condemned any action that threatens Lebanon's security, while the Kremlin warned that the attack could escalate into a wider regional conflict. UK's development minister Anneliese Dodds labeled the recent detonation of pagers in Lebanon as an "awful situation" and announced coordination with humanitarian partners to aid civilian casualties impacted by the explosions.
