Lebanon: Shooting reported outside US embassy in Beirut
A man opened fire this morning on the US Embassy in Lebanon, in Awkar, north of Beirut, injuring someone inside the building. Several Lebanese media outlets initially reported hearing shots. The Lebanese army released a statement confirming the incident, stating that a person of Syrian nationality was responsible for the shooting and was "wounded" by the army as it "responded to the sources of the fire." He was subsequently arrested and taken to hospital for treatment. The army is conducting an initial follow-up investigation to determine the circumstances of the event.
