The Liberal Democrats say big companies should shoulder the "burden of cleaning up the Conservatives' mess" rather than struggling families. Daisy Cooper, the party's Treasury spokesperson, told Sky News she was "deeply concerned" about a rumoured rise in fuel duty during the cost of living crisis. She said: "If there was a viable alternative in terms of being able to use buses and proper cycle routes and being able to use the train and they were accessible and affordable and comfortable and reliable, then I think it might be easier to stomach. "But as things stand, we are in a cost-of-living crisis, [and] the burden of cleaning up the Conservatives' mess should be on the big companies and not these kind of measures on struggling families."
