Live: THE HYPE – Threads of fashion: Yunjin's timeless elegance meets contemporary trends
Yunjin brocade is one of China's most celebrated traditional handicrafts. Closely associated with the city of #Nanjing, it has a 1,600-year history. #Yunjin literally means "cloud brocade," a name derived from its vivid colors and beauty which, it is said, only clouds can rival. Because of this, Yunjin brocade represents the pinnacle of #Chinese silk-weaving art. In recent years, Yunjin brocade, as a #UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, has transformed into high-end fashion customization. Since 2015, it has often appeared on international haute couture stages and at #Paris Fashion Week. When Yunjin, which carries #China's long #history and #culture, meets the contemporary #fashion style, what kind of sparks will it create? In this episode of #TheHype, we invite Jian Mingwei, the curator at Nanjing Yunjin Brocade Museum, and Chen Cheng, an inheritor of Yunjin brocade weaving technique, to engage in an in-depth discussion with CGTN's digital reporter Li Yimei and Iegor Shyshov, a multilingual host and international influencer. Together, they will discuss the history and uniqueness behind the development of Yunjin brocade and the #modern adaptation of it. Tune in at 16:00 Beijing Time on December 22 and let's explore Yunjin brocade's timeless elegance together!
