Living among the dead: Displaced Palestinians shelter in Gaza cemeteries amid bombings & starvat
After 10 months of war, 90% of Gaza’s population has been forced out of their homes, with most having to relocate multiple times. The so-called ‘safe zones’ designated by Israel’s army are shrinking, as new evacuation orders arrive nearly every day. Displaced families struggle to survive in makeshift tents by the sea, enduring constant bombings and dire conditions. They face a lack of safety, sanitation, and adequate food, with some even forced to shelter in cemeteries. Parents are under immense pressure to care for their children amidst the chaos, while ongoing indiscriminate bombings leave no place safe, not even for the dead. Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum talked to Palestinians living on the beaches and in the cemeteries of Deir el-Balah.
