Long Beach residents split on new law bypassing parking minimums for new developments

Long Beach will could see a decrease in parking spaces as they work to meet the state’s housing mandate. Long Beach anticipates 26,000 new homes by 2028, a new state law bars parking minimums for new developments. The law, AB 2553, which goes into effect in January, allows cities to do away with parking minimums for new housing developments that are within a half mile of major transit stops. Residents are concerned over worsening parking problems and safety issues within the public transit.
