‘Long overdue’: The Everest attains Group One status

The Everest – a $20 million race and the richest on turf – now has Group One status. Daily Telegraph’s Ray Thomas says it was “long overdue” for The Everest to be elevated to Group One status. “There seems to be a new era of cooperation in Australian racing now and I think everyone, all the participants, sort of treat it ... as a Group One anyway and now it’s got the official rubber stamp,” he said.
