The Ministry of Health has confirmed that it recently secured about 5,000 COVID-19 vaccines that were primarily distributed in the polyclinic system. However, Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. Arthur Phillips explains that the Ministry has noted a generally low level of uptake by the Barbadian public. While he was unable to give specific figures related to what was left of the vaccines recently received, he noted that they had a very short frame for use of about two weeks, earlier this month. He also explained the approach the Ministry is taking regarding future procurement of COVID-19 vaccines. Meanwhile, the Acting Chief Medical Officer explained that general flu season shots are specifically administered on an annual basis.
