Lugazi accident claims 9, injures 3 - Bodies transported to the Kawolo hospital mortuary.

Police in Buikwe District has recorded a tragic accident that occurred around 01:00 pm on 03/01/2024 at Bulyantente near the flyover along the Kampala-Jinja Highway in Buikwe District. The incident involved a Mitsubishi Fuso truck with registration number UBN 533T, colored white, and driven by an as-yet-unidentified driver. It is reported that the Mitsubishi Fuso truck, carrying sacks of oranges and passengers hidden under a tapeline to evade traffic police, lost control and overturned in a water channel at Bulyantente. The angle bars of the tapeline covering the vehicle collapsed on the passengers, leading to their suffocation. Nine bodies have been recovered from the scene and transported to the Kawolo Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination. Out of the seven unidentified bodies, only two have been identified. Additionally, three victims are currently receiving treatment at Kawolo Hospital. Hellen Butoto, the Police spokesperson for the Ssezibwa region, has confirmed the accident, stating that investigations are ongoing.
