About five million girls in Uganda lose at least 18 percent of their annual school time each year during menstruation due to a lack of sanitary pads. According to the Uganda Red Cross Society, the majority of girls who cannot obtain sanitary pads stay home during their menstrual periods to avoid stigma. At Luwero Girls Primary School in Luwero District, according to Judith Babirye, the senior woman teacher, girls who can’t afford modern sanitary pads opt for rudimentary ways of managing periods such as using rags, which sometimes expose them to infections, leading to many dropping out of school. The school has received 230 boxes of sanitary pads from Omutima Heart for Uganda and General Wares, the producers of Softcare pads. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda
