A major change in gun regulation takes effect in the United States on Monday (May 20). After decades of political wrangling, the so-called ‘gun show loophole’, which has allowed firearms to be sold at gun shows and online without a background check, is set to close. The new rule is part of a bipartisan law passed in the wake of a 2022 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, which left 19 children and two adults dead.
