Australia has become the first nation in the world to ban children under 16 from accessing social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and TikTok. Penalties of up to $50 million will be applied if major tech platforms breach the new laws. However, parents will not be subjected to penalties if a breach occurs. The legislation will return to the lower house this morning for final approvals and if successful, the laws will be enacted in 2026.
