Manitoba community to fine people who abandon animals. Could other Canadian cities adopt bylaw?
The rural municipality of Ste. Anne in Manitoba has adopted a bylaw that would see those who abandon their animals, such as leaving them behind in an empty home or dropping them off on the side of the road, fined $1,000 per incident in a way to deter such an act. There are already laws and regulations federally and provincially to try and prevent such animal abandonment, but advocates say bylaws like Ste. Anne's could be an added boost to such prevention. As Global’s Sean Previl reports, a Ste. Anne councillor would love to see it replicated across Canada and animal aid organizations say it's another way to protect our furry friends.
