Medical schools driving millions into the economy
Millions of dollars, much of it in foreign exchange, is being pumped into the Barbados' economy as a result of the medical schools operating here. That's according to Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, Sandra Husbands. She adds that several of such medical schools have notified authorities that they are preparing to ramp up their marketing strategies, to increase student enrollment. Minister Husbands was speaking after signing a memorandum of understanding between the Ireland-based Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine and the Ministry of Education. The MOU allows for medical schools in Barbados to become accredited through the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine. According to Ms. Husbands, the partnership coincides with Government's move to make Barbados a hub for global education.
