Migration: Home secretary say UK is making 'stronger enforcements' to tackle illegal migra
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper met with Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi in Rome, for talks addressing people smuggling and how to tackle illegal migration at source. This comes as figures from the Home Office show more than 34,500 people arrived in the UK via small boat so far this year, a 19% increase on 2023. Ms Cooper says the talks are needed to "restore order and control" to boarder security and the asylum system, as well to outline the "much stronger enforcement" the UK government is taking.
