Military And Heroes Parade In San Fernando
As part of month-long festivities celebrating San Fernando’s 36 years of city status under the theme "Now Yuh Know Sando," residents were treated to a Military and Heroes Parade through the streets of San Fernando on Saturday. Beginning at the iconic Skinner Park, military personnel from armed and unarmed branches executed precision drills in full dress uniform before proceeding with the Route March to King's Wharf. Honoured with a Presentation of Plaques were sporting hero and former National cyclist, Ian Atherly, and former Culture Minister, Mrs. Joan Yuille-Williams, both proud citizens of San Fernando. Mayor Robert Parris stated, "Mr. Ian Atherly and Ms. Joan Yuille-Williams - two most deserving San Fernandians who have set, and they are pioneers in their respective rights. I want to humble congratulate both of you, on behalf of the city of San Fernando. Today, we bestow upon both of you, Mr. Ian Atherly, this cycling track would be named in your honour, and Ms. Williams, the netball court, deservingly, will be named after Ms. Joan Yuille-Williams." Despite the rain, military personnel moved through their paces and saluted the Mayor in front of the San Fernando City Hall. Residents and visitors were also treated to a parade of vintage vehicles as the weather began to clear. The morning's celebrations culminated in the Civic Reception, where outstanding citizens were awarded, and those in attendance honoured the past and celebrated the future of the San Fernando City Corporation.
