The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs is urging the public to remain vigilant and to take necessary preventative measures in response to the current situation of dengue fever cases in Saint Lucia. As the island continues to experience the rainy season, a period typically associated with an increase in mosquito-borne diseases, it is crucial for residents to be proactive in protecting themselves and their communities from the spread of dengue fever. Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is naturally found in Saint Lucia. This seasonal disease is known to peak during periods of heavy rainfall, creating ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes. The last significant outbreak of dengue fever in Saint Lucia occurred in 2020, with over 1,300 confirmed cases reported.
