Misinformation bill to serve as ‘big wet blanket’ over free speech

Liberal Senator Alex Antic says the left wing of politics in Australia seems to adore “cosmopolitan authoritarianism”. Under the proposed misinformation bill put forward by the Albanese government, social media companies could be fined up to five per cent of their global revenue if they fail to adequately crack down on misinformation and disinformation on their platforms. “Ultimately, this will serve as a great big wet blanket over the top of free speech,” Mr Antic said.
