Mix of interventions needed

Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kerrie Symmonds has pointed to Barbados' low birth rate and increasing death rate, as just some of the reasons why a mix of interventions, including cross-border movement, must be considered to respond to the situation. He made the comment as he contributed to the Parliamentary Debate on the Caribbean Community (Movement of Skilled Nationals) (Amendment) Bill 2024. Noting that current projections suggest one in two Barbadians will be over the age of 60 by the year 2050, he says widening the tax base will benefit the island and its economy in the long run.
