Former Howard government minister Peter McGauran says Moira Deeming was the reason John Pesutto “self-immolated”. Victorian Shadow Police Minister Brad Battin was chosen as the new leader of the party, and former tennis player Sam Groth was chosen as his deputy. The state Liberals also decided to vote back exiled MP Moira Deeming into the party room. “Moira Deeming was the reason that John Pesutto self-immolated, and it’s rare to see a leader of the Opposition crash and burn on an issue that could’ve been solved at several points along the way,” Mr McGauran told Sky News Australia. “Brad Battin, he looks great – ex-policeman, ex-small businessman, been in parliament 14 years, experienced. “He looks tailor-made.”
