More Staff For Tobago Registrar General's Office
After several weeks of concerns being raised about the operations at the Registrar General’s Tobago Sub-Office, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Senator Reginald Amour SC, met with Tobago Members of Parliament, representatives of the Tobago Lawyers Association, and other Legal Affairs officers in Tobago. He is assuring Tobagonians that the Registrar General's Tobago Sub-Office is functioning, and noted there was miscommunication circulating regarding the operations of the office. "We acknowledge that some of these services are not being delivered in alignment with our expectations and at a standard that the people of Tobago deserve. Ladies and gentlemen, members of Tobago public, as Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, I stand here today to apologise to the people of Tobago." The Attorney General shared some issues that have been identified. "There have been some deeds, a number of deeds, deed polls, will duties, and bills of sales that had not been processed for submission over the last two months totalling over fifty documents. These have been since addressed and it has been narrowed down to the actions to one or two employees." A short-term action plan will be activated within the next six weeks to address concerns at the Registrar General’s Tobago Sub-Office. "Immediately establishing a Tobago help desk with a designated hotline and email address to provide a channel for the public of Tobago, members of this island, to report these instances and to have access for prompt and urgent resolution." Measures to address managerial and overall resources issues will be implemented. One of these will be the temporary assignment of an Acting Deputy Registrar General until the Judicial and Legal Commission appoints an Assistant Registrar General for Tobago. "That Deputy Registrar Acting will be at the Tobago Sub-Office four days weekly from Monday to Thursday, and an Assistant Registrar will additionally be present each Friday. So you will have five days continued service every week." AG Armour informed the recruitment processes are currently underway for additional vacancies and should be completed by the end of January 2025.
